ANDERSON, SC (WSPA) – The estranged wife of Charles Carver has been charged with impersonating an officer.
Anderson police say she did it to get information about his disappearance.
Nichole Carver, 35, is accused of trying to impersonate the lead investigator in the missing person case before authorities say his body was discovered on the Spartanburg County property of a suspected serial killer.
Police say she called a phone service provider and claimed to be a detective on the case looking for information on Charles Carver’s disappearance.
Nichole Carver asked the provider to tell her where Charlie Carver’s cell phone last pinged, according to an incident report.
Carver was booked into jail on Tuesday.
A judge set her bond at $2,500 at a hearing on Wednesday.
Anderson Police don’t know how, or if, she is linked to accused Superbike killer Todd Kohlhepp.
Kohlhepp is charged with kidnapping Charles Carver’s girlfriend, Kala Brown.
Brown told investigators that Kohlhepp shot Charles.
Kohlhepp has not been charged in Carver’s death as of Tuesday.
The Carvers had not filed for divorce at the time of his disappearance. Neighbors have said the couple had a bitter breakup and Brown moved into an apartment with Charles Carver.
Carver’s next court date is set for Dec. 16.
She has retained an attorney and has no prior criminal history.
