CLINTON, S.C. (WSPA) – A former candidate for Laurens County Coroner, and the man behind the leaked text messages regarding Sheriff Ricky Chastain, has been indicted, according to the Index Journal.

James Hayes was charged with disseminating harmful materials to minor.

Investigators say he showed a picture of male genitalia to a 16-year-old girl in a parking lot on August 15th, according to the Index Journal

They say the incident happened in front of multiple witnesses that were watching a fire at Dempsey’s Pizza.

A judge removed Hayes from the ballot because he did not meet the statutory requirements to be coroner.
