Colleton County, SC (WCBD/WSPA) – A fatal accident between a tractor-trailer and a car early Friday morning claimed four lives.
Colleton-County Fire Rescue arrived at the scene on I-95 southbound to children and an adult trapped in the vehicle.
Police shut down two lanes of traffic and took almost two hours to reach those stuck in the car.
Three children were dead on arrival, the adult has been flown from the accident at mile marker 44 to Trident Trauma Center.
Officials said early Friday that 4 children were killed but that was later corrected to 3 children.
Troopers say that one adult and three children were killed in the crash.
A total of six people were in a 2001 Ford Taurus that collided with a 2017 Freightliner on Southbound I-95 near mile marker 44 at 3:50 a.m. Friday, troopers say.
The driver of the car and a passenger were injured and taken to the hospital. All four people in the backseat were killed, troopers say.
The tractor-trailer driver was also taken to the hospital.
