CHIMNEY ROCK, NC (WSPA) – Officials have closed a seven mile stretch of US 64/74A in Rutherford County near Lake Lure and Chimney Rock.
The section of road will be closed to all traffic except emergency personnel until it is deemed safe for residents and visitors.
The closure is between the intersection of NC 9 and US 64 near Lake Lure and the intersection of US 64 and US 74A in Bat Cave.
There will be a 48-mile detour around the fire using NC 9, NC 108, US 74, and I-26 through Mill Spring and Hendersonville.
NCDOT asks motorists to slow down, obey all posted signs, and add extra time to get to your destination.
