SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – A group in Spartanburg is working to turn a former park into a way of honoring some Upstate musicians.
Fans of the Marshall Tucker Band held a birthday celebration at the Beacon on Sunday for the late Toy and Tommy Caldwell.
Toy and Tommy were original members of the popular southern rock band.
Organizers said the birthday celebration was also a kick-off event for their plan to turn the park on West Victoria Road into a memorial for the legendary musicians.
“We want to have a permanent place in Spartanburg to remember these guys because they were great ambassadors of Spartanburg,” Jimmy Tobias said.
The event today included food, an open mic for story-telling, and songs.
