ANDERSON, SC (WSPA) – A day before jury selection was set to begin, prosecutors say a man admitted to a sex crime with a child.
Jasper Eugene Ashley, 63, pled guilty Monday to second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to the 10th Circuit Solicitor’s office.
Ashley was sentenced to 15 years. It was suspended to 10 years in prison with 5 years of probation.
In May 2015, Belton police officers responded to a home after it was reported that a girl had been sexually assaulted.
Prosecutors say the 9-year-old disclosed that Ashley had performed oral sex on her several times between March 2014 and April 2015 when the she was between 8 and 9 years old.
Ashley was arrested on May 24, 2015.
“No one should be forced or intimidated into performing or having sexual acts performed on them, but it is especially egregious when the victim is a child. This young lady has been truly brave throughout the whole judicial process. Hopefully, knowing
Jasper Ashley is in prison and with the continued support of her family and counselors she can now feel the security that children deserve and have the ability to put this in the past,” Assistant Solicitor Kristin Reeves said in a statement.
