EAST FLAT ROCK, NC (WSPA) – A Henderson County woman is accused of assaulting two deputies who were serving a warrant for violating a burn ban earlier in the day.
The Sheriff’s Office says 56-year-old Evangelina Rodriguez was arrested and charged with Misdemeanor Open Burning When Prohibited, two counts of Misdemeanor Assault on a Government Official, two counts of Resisting a Public Officer, and Failure to Appear for an unrelated misdemeanor assault charge.
Deputies and firefighters responded to a home on Victoria Drive in East Flat Rock for a reported illegal burn just after 2:00pm on Tuesday. Deputies say after determined the fire to have been intentionally set by Rodriguez they tried to question her but she ran back into her home.
Deputies say when they returned with warrants to arrest Rodriguez, she assaulted two deputies as she was being taken into custody.
Nobody was injured during the arrest.
Rodriguez is being held in the Henderson County Jail on $4,700 bond.
A man is accused of starving dogs to death in his yard in Laurens Co., according to deputies.
Bond was denied for Phillip Ray Kilgore, 38, based on his prior record and charges.
