LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) – Avry Holmes scored 22 points, Jaron Blossomgame added 17 and Clemson defeated Davidson 95-78 on Thursday in the opening game of the Tire Pros Invitational.
Gabe DeVoe added 16 for the Tigers (2-0). It was the most points Clemson has scored in 196 games under coach Brad Brownell.
Peyton Aldridge scored 22 points for Davidson (1-1), which went 11 for 40 from 3-point range. Jack Gibbs, who was sixth nationally in scoring at 23.7 points per game, made his season debut after recovering from a left shoulder issue and scored 18 for the Wildcats.
Both teams came out flying despite an 11 a.m. start, and Clemson’s lead was 29-28 midway through the first half.
After that, it was all Tigers.
Clemson ended the half on an 18-6 run, going into the break with a 47-34 lead after Davidson’s 3-point game went icy cold. After starting the game 6 for 10 from 3-point range, the Wildcats missed their next 16 tries from beyond the arc and trailed by double-digits the rest of the way.
