TOWNVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) — Almost $30,000 was raised at an event to rebuild Townville Elementary School’s playground and help first responders.
Dwayne Johnson organized the dinner and auction held Wednesday night.
Johnson said they raised almost $30,000 at the dinner. More donations Thursday put them over $30,000. They also donated barbecue from the event to feed firefighters battling the wildfire in Pickens County, Johnson said.
In September, authorities say a teen drove to the elementary school and opened fire outside the school. Prosecutors have said that three children were injured. Jacob Hall was fatally injured. A first-grade teacher was also hurt before authorities say a firefighter subdued the 14-year-old boy accused of the shooting.
Proceeds from Wednesday night’s fundraiser will go to Townville Volunteer Fire Department, Fork Rescue Squad and Townville Elementary School.
“Thanks so much for all who supported our efforts to show our first responders how much we appreciated their help during our tragedy,” Johnson said.
People who could not make it to the dinner and auction can make an online donation that Johnson said would go directly to the school playground project. Click here for more information.
