BUNCOMBE CO., N.C. (WSPA) – The containment lines on the Party Rock fire have held firm, despite strong winds, fire managers say.
But the threat has not passed as strong northwest winds are expected until early morning, they say.
Officials say a Red Flag warning remains in effect until midnight.
Firefighters will be patrolling the containment lines all night.
The wind has fanned some lingering areas of smoldering fuel, and small flames may be seen throughout the night, but these hot spots will be monitored by fire personnel.
There have been no changes in evacuation plans.
Because of increased public concern, the fire information center will remain open through the night. The center phone numbers are (828) 513-2500 or (336) 455-9641.
