LAKE LURE, NC (WSPA) — Despite the strong winds Saturday, crews say the Party Rock fire did not grow this weekend.
“Continued windy conditions and low humidity will keep firefighters on their toes again today,” a release from the North Carolina Forest Service said.
Incident Commander Dan Brandon tells 7News that no new evacuation warnings have been issued but residents near the fire are asked to remain vigilant.
“If we can hold it one more day, we should be in great shape,” said Brandon.
The size of the fire remains at 7,171 acres. Officials say Party Rock is 36% contained.
More than 900 firefighters are working the fire now — many who will be there for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Residents and business owners have been allowed back into the Chimney Rock Village and Bat Cave communities but passes are required.
A stretch of Highway 64/74-A through Chimney Rock Village from Bat Cave to Lake Lure remains closed.
