SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) — WSSL 100 and Miracle Hill will hold the 10th annual Great Possible Turkey Fry Tuesday to feed 10,000 homeless people on Thanksgiving.
Organizers also help the effort will raise $150,000 for Miracle Hill Ministries.
Tuesday starts off early. Around 5:30 a.m., two brothers will take on the challenge of cooking more than 500 turkeys in peanut oil and several turkey fryers. The brother’s mother was an avid WSSL 100 listener and the two said they do this in her honor.
While the fry team cooks and smokes turkeys, over 100 volunteers will carve, prepare side dishes, collect donations, deliver turkeys and other tasks.
The community effort to ensure no one in the Upstate goes hungry on Thanksgiving will continue through 5:30 p.m.
The effort started 10 years ago with just 5 fryers, 20 or so turkeys and has grown every year.
The main event takes place at Miracle Hill Rescue Mission in Spartanburg; however, turkeys are served at all nine Miracle Hill shelters in Greenville, Gaffney, Pickens and Spartanburg counties.
Turkeys are distributed to families in need across the Upstate.
