Clerk slashed with knife trying to stop Greenville shoplifter

Laurens Co. deputies investigate sexual assault

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – A store clerk was cut in the neck while attempting to stop a shoplifter at 19 Wine and Spirits on Verdae Boulevard.

The incident happened Tuesday evening.

Police say the clerk saw an older man put a bottle of liquor in his jacket. When the clerk confronted him, the suspect ran out of the door and the clerk chased him.

The shoplifter pulled out a knife and cut the store clerk’s neck, according to police.

Officers rendered first aid to the clerk until emergency responders arrived at the scene.
