PICKENS CO., SC (WSPA) – South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has declared a state of emergency for Greenville and Pickens counties because of the Pinnacle Mountain Fire.
The wildfire increased in size and strength Wednesday and has spread to 7,282 acres.
The fire is 40 percent contained.
Unfavorable weather conditions like high winds and low humidity will cause problems.
There have been evacuations and may continue.
Haley said in the order that the wildfire will require additional help beyond local and state agencies.
The governor is directing the SC Emergency Operations Plan be put in effect and is placing specified units of the SC National Guard and State Guard on state active duty.
The order took effect Tuesday and will last through midnight Dec. 7.
Table Rock Wesleyan Camp is asking for donations of hand warmers, zip lock bags, cleaning supplies, and sandwich meat to assist in the firefighting efforts in Pickens County.
