GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – A worker at 19 Wine and Spirits on Verdae Boulevard had his throat cut when he confronted a shoplifter.
It happened around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday.
According to police reports, a man came in the store and put a liquor bottle in his waistband.
The owner confronted the suspected shoplifter as he tried to leave and followed him into the parking lot in an effort to get the merchandise back. That’s when witnesses tell police the shoplifter cut the owner’s throat.

The victim was taken to a hospital. Police weren’t immediately able to get a statement from the victim, who was taken into surgery, the report states.
A woman who answered the phone at the store Wednesday and identified herself as the owner’s wife said he is still in the hospital. She said her husband is in stable condition and doing well.
