SIMPSONVILLE (WSPA) – Police believe it’s unlikely that a murder suspect on the run – with who appears to be with a teenage girl – crossed the U.S. border into Mexico.
John Blauvelt has been charged with the murder of his estranged wife, Catherine Blauvelt, by the Simpsonville Police Department. Her body was found in an abandoned home off southeast Main Street in late October.
John Blauvelt is believed to be with Hannah Thompson, 17, of Fountain Inn. He was last seen at the Las Cruces, New Mexico border checkpoint on November 15 according to investigators. U.S. Customs officials tell Simpsonville Police Blauvelt likely did not cross the border into Mexico.
He was seen there driving his red 2000 GMC Yukon South Carolina license plate JKY 829 with what appears to be a female passenger.
Simpsonville Police have charged a second man in connection with the killing who was already in jail on another charge. Charles Sidney Scott Jr., 31, is charged with murder.
Both men are also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Scott is being held without bond in the Greenville County Detention Center.
A missing person’s report was filed for Hannah Thompson. Simposnville Police Chief Steven Moore says Thompson is the girlfriend of Blauvelt. The report says her mother thinks she is with him.
Hannah is described as 5 feet 4 inches. weighs and weighing 150 to 160 pounds with long brown hair, brown eyes and braces. The chief thinks she may be in danger because of Blauvelt’s violent tendencies and her age and being so far from home.
