MARION, NC (WSPA) – The Clear Creek fire in McDowell County has now burned over 2,600 acres and is 30 percent contained.
Crews say helicopter bucket drops have been successful in slowing the fire’s spread along the southwestern edge of the fire.
Firefighters say they will continue to work on the fire lines and work to protect buildings along Clear Creek Road, NC 90, and Locust Cove.
If residents affected by smoke need a shelter, there is one available upon request at Nebo Crossing Church. Transportation is available by calling 652-3241 or 652-3982.
A community meeting is planned for Friday at 6:30pm at the Grace Community Church at 5182 US 70 W, Marion, NC.
