CHARLESTON, S.C. – A judge in South Carolina has decided not to release the transcript of a competency hearing for Dylann Roof.
U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel ruled today that the 22-year-old white man is fit to stand trial in the killings of nine black parishioners at a Charleston church.
But the judge says releasing the transcript of the two-day competency hearing would jeopardize Roof’s chances of a fair trial. Jury selection is set to begin Monday.
