North Greenville scored four first quarter touchdowns and rolled to a 45-26 win over visiting Tuskegee Saturday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs
The Crusaders advanced to face North Alabama in Florence, Alabama next Saturday.
Carolina Academy alumn Tracy Scott carried for 123 yards and a touchdown for North Greenville (9-4). Scott’s one-yard run less than nine minutes into the game gave the Crusaders a 14-0 lead.
Woodruff’s Demajiay Rooks opened the scoring on a 24-yard pass from Will Hunter on NGU’s third play from scrimmage to being the game. Hunter finished with 272 yards passing and three touchdown tosses. He also rushed for a score.
Tuskegee’s Quincy Cox fumbled the ensuing kick-off and North Greenville recovered at the Golden Lions’ 34-yard line. Five plays later, Hunter dashed toward the endzone from the four, fumbled at the one, but tight end Bobby Foos (Chesnee) recovered for the game’s third touchdown and a 21-0 lead.
Hunter connected with Mason Sanders (Boiling Springs) from 10 yards out with just over a minute remaining in the opening quarter for the 28-0 lead.
Tuskegee cut the deficit to 15 points early in the third quarter at 35-20 but never got any closer.
