LAKE LURE, N.C. (WSPA) — Crews battling the Party Rock Fire welcomed news of expected rain.
Two fronts are expected to bring showers Tuesday and Wednesday. Most of the Upstate could see an inch and more rain is expected in the mountains where crews have been battling wildfires for weeks.
Officials said in a statement that firefighters are extinguishing hot spots and removing excess equipment from the fire lines on Monday.
Firefighters from across North Carolina and 24 other states are helping battle the blaze. They’ve scraped fire trails since early November.
As the fire situation improves, many crews are beginning to return home.
“It is great feeling to be out here lending a hand on the fire; I do miss my family, but I am glad to be here helping make a difference,” Jake Gosschalk with Texas A&M Forest Service said in a statement.
