Community raising money after soldier’s daughter has rare defect

The Upstate is working on supporting a family that serves our community everyday.

Jeff and Cecilia Hoffhaus had their second child, Kennedy, on Monday. Kennedy was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, or HLHS.

The condition is rare, showing up once in every 4,000 babies.

Kennedy will have to undergo several surgeries, including open heart during her first week of life .

Jeff and Cecilia both serve as National Guard members from Boiling Springs, now the community feels they need to give back to them.

The family has issued a Go Fund Me Page to help raise money for their medical expenses.
