FEI World Equestrian Games has the potential to be the largest sporting event in history to come to North Carolina.
The Tryon International Equestrian Center made a big announcement earlier this month that the games would be coming in 2018.
Organizers said the event ranks alongside the Olympics when it comes to equestrian competitions. TIEC CEO Mark Bellissimo preparations are underway now as they normally would have 5 years to plan and prepare.
Those world equestrian games run for 14 days in September of 2018. He said the games have been held in cities like Stockholm, Rome Italy, Lexington Kentucky and most recently Normandy, France.
Bellissimo continued that in some cities it’s had a 400 million dollar impact bringing in over 500,000 people.
Sharon Decker at the TIEC said there are many holiday events being put on by the center to introduce locals and visitors to the horses and the equestrian world.
Shopping events will happen on the first and second Thursdays of December. On Saturday’s, families can have pancakes with Santa and make cookies in the General Store next to the main building.
