Candlelight service for families of violent crime, tragedy

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The people inside Spartanburg’s Morningside Baptist Church Thursday night shared a common bond. They are the families and friends whose lives were shattered by violence and tragedy.

This is the 26th year that chaplains and victim advocates with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office has held the candlelight service.

The event aims to provide comfort, support, and encouragement for these families during the holiday season.

There were emotional speeches from people who talked about how the gathering has helped them cope with the loss of their loved ones each year. Among the speakers were Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright and Solicitor Barry Barnette.

A choir and singers sang before candles were lit, and a moment of silence was observed. A slideshow also displayed the pictures of people who lost their lives over the years, whose families attended to support eachother.
