Crews respond to fire at Spartanburg Co. plant

SPARTANBURG Co., SC (WSPA) — Several departments have cleared the scene of a fire at a manufacturing plant.

The fire was reported just before 2 a.m. Friday at Auriga Polymers on Dewberry Road.

7 News is hearing from viewers concerned about the chemical smell in the area. Cherokee Springs Fire Chief Trent Harper says no hazardous materials were released.

Doug Bryson, director of Spartanburg County Emergency Management, said HAZMAT responded as a precaution and was on standby.

Polyester resins and specialty polymers used in bottles, trays, sheets and textiles are made at the plant.

Auriga Polymers said there a small fire within a hot oil boiler system around 1:40 a.m. Friday. The company said in a statement that firefighters and Auriga Polymers’ emergency responders used water to dissipate the fire.

There are no reported injuries and the flame was extinguished.

The plant was running normally on Friday morning.
