Upstate teen nationally recognized for organ donations

SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) – An Upstate teenager killed in a dirt-bike crash was honored Tuesday at his school for his organ donations which went to five different people.

Fourteen-year-old Jacob McCollum died in February, but his legacy lives on through those he helped.

LifePoint and Donate Life South Carolina created an artistic floral portrait that will be on the Donate Life Rose Parade Float in the 2017 Rose Parade in January.

A ceremony was held at Jacob’s school, Fairforest Middle School, to finish the floragraph. Jacob’s family and friends were at the ceremony to finish the floragraph.

Jacob is among 60 donors selected from across the country to be honored. This is the ninth time a donor from South Carolina will be honored on the Donate Life Rose Parade Float.

The McCollum family be will flown to Pasadena to watch the Rose Parade in January.
