Teen pleads guilty to selling gun to Ofc. Jacob’s shooter

Trystan Merritt, the teen that sold Deontea Mackey the gun that was used to kill Greenville Officer Allen Jacobs, pled guilty to the crime.

Merritt was facing two charges, Larceny and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. Greenville Police Chief Ken Miller says that Merritt stole the gun from his grandfather.

The 17-year-old pled guilty to the Larceny charge. The judge sentenced him to a Youthful Offenders Act sentence. Merritt will spend 9 months in the Trenton Correctional Institution. After that Merritt will have at least five years of intensive supervision by a parole officer. If Merritt violates the terms of his YOA parole, he will be placed back in a secure facility.

Officer Jacobs was killed on March 18th by Deontea Mackey, before Mackey shot himself.
