SIX MILE, S.C. (WSPA) – Eight-year-old Kyler Walden rushes home from school each day to find stacks and stacks of Christmas cards waiting on him.
“Ooh this one’s nice,” said Kyler as he opened up a card Friday afternoon.
Kyler has brittle bone disease, which makes it hard for him to play outside or with other kids. “We stay inside mostly,” said mom Kristi. She helps him open every letter and reads him the messages inside.
“It’s overwhelming. It’s with emotions. We sit. We cry. We laugh at some of them,” Kristi remembered. “It’s a new person. It’s a new wish, a new pen pal, a new friend, a new connection.”
Last year, Kyler received thousands of cards from all over the country and this year he is hoping to get some from all over the world.
They have even started a facebook page to share stories and pictures of the growing pile.
