Man dead after house fire in Union Co.

LOCKHART, SC (WSPA) – A 65-year-old man is dead following a morning house fire in Lockhart.

The Union County coroner identified the victim as Lester Avant.

The fire happened just before 9 a.m. Sunday on North 2nd Street.

Sheriff David Taylor said neighbors pulled Avant from the fire.

An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday morning to determine the cause of death.

The coroner’s office, Union County Sheriff’s Office, S.C. Law Enforcement Division, and Lockhart Volunteer Fire Department are investigating the fire.
