CAMPOBELLO, SC (WSPA-TV) — Two Upstate teenagers spent weeks collecting Christmas cards for veterans.
Ashby and Abbi Cartee started the tradition in 2011, collecting a little more than 300 cards.
Five years later, they’re able to give 30,000 veterans a handmade card to open for the holidays.
“I just want them to know that they’re appreciated and people think about them,” said Ashby Cartee.
The siblings, who go to Landrum High School, collected the handmade cards with the help of Spartanburg District 1.
Each school holds a special send-off ceremony to bring the cards outside (shown above).
The cards will go to veterans in Spartanburg, Greenville, Anderson, Asheville, Charleston, Columbia, Augusta, and Washington D.C.
