Thousands of soldiers prepare to head home for holidays

COLUMBIA, SC (WSPA)–About 7,000 soldiers in Basic Combat Training head home for the holidays starting at midnight.  The soldiers won’t have to return until Jan. 2.

Fort Jackson transportation planners and travel offices have worked for months to plan a smooth departure that continues through early afternoon on Saturday, Dec. 17. If you’ll be in an airport on Saturday, you may see higher than normal congestion as military personnel in training from all services head home for the holidays.

Approximately 200 Soldiers will remain at Fort Jackson through the holiday period.
