SPARTANBURG CO., S.C. (WSPA) — A Greer man is accused of dragging his girlfriend with a vehicle and beating her before she convinced him to take her to a hospital.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office charged Micah Rodney Spires, 35, with kidnapping and first-degree domestic violence.

A witness told a sheriff’s deputy that he was almost hit head-on by a Ford Mustang on Highway 295 and Highway 101 around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The witness said the driver of the Mustang was hitting a woman in the car as she tried to get out and partially dragged her as it drove away.

About three hours later, a 911 dispatcher received information about a woman at a hospital and believed she was the same victim from the Ford Mustang.

Spires told a deputy at the hospital that he and his girlfriend ran out of gas and were hitching a ride in a truck when the tailgate opened and his girlfriend fell out of the truck and was injured, according to an incident report.

The report says she told deputies that she and Spence had been living together and using Meth for the last month.

She says and they got into an argument about her seeing another guy when things escalated and Spires started slapping and punching her in the face and used a small flashlight to hit her in the head.

The woman said she grabbed the steering wheel and tried ramming into a pickup truck in an attempt to get help but was not successful, according to an incident report.

She said Spires stopped the car and she tried to get out of the car, but Spires grabbed her and drove off – dragging her legs on the road.

She said Spires kept hitting her until she convinced him to take her to the hospital.

According to the report, the victim’s left eye was swollen shut, she had numerous cuts on her arms and hands, and her left leg was in a splint.

Hospital employees were doing a series of X-rays and CT scans to determine the extent of her injuries while a deputy was at the hospital.

Spires was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center Sunday night. He remains in jail without bond on Monday, according to online court records.
