Pedestrian killed in early morning Greenville crash

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) — One person was killed in a crash early Thursday.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said a pedestrian was fatally hit as he crossed Rutherford Street.

It happened at 2:48 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of North Echols Street.

The coroner’s office says the pedestrian crossed in front of an oncoming vehicle in the rain and was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma to the head and torso.

His name has not been released as of 8 a.m. Thursday. The coroner’s office is withholding the release of his name until family are notified.

The case is being investigated by the Greenville City Police Department  and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.
