BOSTIC, NC (WSPA) – A suspect was shot by Rutherford County deputies who responded to a domestic dispute involving a father and his two sons at a home near Bostic.
Deputies say shots were fired in the dispute before deputies arrived and that they were fired on when they got to the home on Whippoorwill Drive. Deputies say they tried unsuccessfully to negotiate with the suspect in an attempt to get him to surrender.
Sheriff Chris Francis says deputies exchanged gunfire with the suspect before he was hit. Deputies say the suspect was still armed and dangerous after being hit. The sheriff’s office requested Henderson County’s Bearcat Armored Vehicle to respond to allow deputies to safely approach the suspect.
The Rutherford County SERT Team and Henderson County SWAT Team were able to take the suspect into custody.
The sheriff says the suspect was taken to Cleveland Regional Hospital for his injury.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer-involved shooting. NC State Highway Patrol’s helicopter assisted in the arrest.
