UNION, SC (WSPA) – A man accused of murdering his stepmother received a 42-year sentence.
On Tuesday, Ashley Tyler pleaded guilty to murder, violating the sex offender registry, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and escape from prison.
Tyler shot and killed 61-year-old Rebecca Tyler in November 2015. Tyler was awaiting trial when he and another inmate at the Union County jail – Kenneth Lipsey – escaped in August 2016.
Sheriff David Taylor said the two men shared a cell at the time.
The escaped inmates were found around in a wooded area by Buffalo Creek after a homeowner spotted footprints heading into nearby woods.
Rebecca Tyler was shot three times in her home on River Road on November 19. Her body was found the following morning.
Along with Tyler, deputies charges his girlfriend, Dabriada Alman, with accessory to murder and transporting a weapon to a felon.
Alman received a 30-month sentence with credit for time served after pleading guilty to the weapons charge in October, according to online court records.
