UNION, S.C. (WSPA) — A blaze that lit up the night sky and threatened nearby property is considered suspicious.

Fire crews with the City of Union and Monarch responded to the house fire at 110 Woodrow Street around 10:39 p.m. Thursday.

Chief Sam White, director of the Union Public Safety Department, said the house was fully involved when crews arrived on scene.

Responders were concerned the blaze would catch another house on fire. There are several homes nearby. Fortunately that did not happen and no one was hurt, Chief White said.

He said investigators think it is arson. The house has been abandoned for years and there’s no power to the house. Chief White said there was a fire at the same house on Christmas morning just a few years ago.

The house burned completely down in Thursday night’s fire.
