ANDERSON CO., SC (WSPA) – A woman has been charged after Anderson Co. deputies found kids in a home that was in ‘deplorable condition’ and a dead dog in a kennel on the front porch.
Animal control responded to a call on the 3000 block of Sunset Forest Dr in Anderson about a dead animal.
When they got there they saw a Great Dane in a portable kennel on the front porch. They say it appeared to be in the final stages of decomposition.
The complainant came to the home and said they were concerned about the well being of two children who lived there.
They say a third child occasionally lived there as well with Lorette Loraine Lewis, 27.
Deputies say they spoke to Lewis after she came to the home shortly after they got there.
They say she wasn’t cooperative with deputies or DSS caseworkers.
Deputies got a search warrant and found the home in “deplorable condition and unfit for human occupancy,” according to the report.
The report says home was infested with insects, rodent, large amounts of trash accumulation and animal feces and urine was found throughout the home.
Deputies located the two kids (7 and 8 years-old) and put them in DSS custody.
Lewis is charged with Ill treatment to Animals and Improper/Failure to Bury a Deceased Animal.
The report says a hold has been placed on Lewis for three counts of Unlawful Neglect of a Child.
She is currently held at the Anderson County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
