SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – Tourism leaders from across the South Carolina will gather this week in Spartanburg.
The 52nd annual South Carolina Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Travel started Monday and continued through Wednesday.
Governor Henry McMaster headlined the conference and attended the luncheon at Wednesday.
“We’ve got a great state and we’re going right straight to the top in all things including economic prosperity,” said Governor McMaster after leaders announced a fourth straight year of record growth.
The S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism said in a news release that it’s the state’s largest gathering of tourism leaders. They received an update on the state of tourism in South Carolina and hear from authorities in consumer trends, tourism security and digital marketing to millennials.
Duane Parrish, Director of the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism, says tourism is a $20 billion industry that supports 10% of jobs in the state.
“We want everybody to leave here with a good feeling about the successes they had in 2016, better ideas about what they can do to attract businesses in 2017,” Parrish explained.
They also explored Spartanburg as a tourism destination on trips to BMW’s Zentrum and Performance Driving Center and other local attractions.
