Crews search Lake Hartwell

ANDERSON Co., S.C. (WSPA) – Rescuers recovered a body from Lake Hartwell hours after a drowning was reported there.

The body was recovered around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Deputy Coroner Don McCown identified the man pulled from the lake as 48-year-old Chester Earl Causey Hawkins.

He died while fishing near his home on Roach Circle.

McCown said investigators think Hawkins, who had a seizure disorder, fell into the water after having a seizure.

Zion Fire Department, Anderson County Technical Rescue, and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call. Crews set up on Roach Circle by a bridge that crossed the lake.
