SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) – JM Smith Corporation has announced that their chairman and CEO, William R. Cobb, is retiring.
They say he will retire on Feb. 28 after more than 40 years of service.
He has been chairman and CEO for more than 19 years, according to the company.
In a release Cobb said, “This has been in the works for some time. When I began my career here, I never dreamed that I’d be retiring as Chairman some 40 years later. I have been guided by a set of principles instilled in me by the Smith family: ‘We need to remember the basics: be a good supplier to our customers; be a good customer to our suppliers; be a good investment for our shareholders; be a good employer to our employees; and be a good citizen in our community.’ I like to think that is as true today as it was then.”
They say Cobb started with the company in 1976 as a computer programmer and was named the first president of QS/1 in 1990.
He was named chairman and CE) in 1998.
The company says they are the third-largest privately held company in SC.
They say they employ more than 1,100 people and were named to the list of World’s Most Ethical Companies.
JM Smith also owns QS/1, Integral Solutions Group, RxMedic Systems and Integra LTC Solutions.
