GREENWOOD Co., S.C. (WSPA) — A woman is expected to face charges after she allegedly drove past a checkpoint and led troopers on a chase.
The chase ended in a crash that sent one to the hospital.
The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident since a state vehicle was involved. John Long with the sheriff’s office said the agency was not involved in the checkpoint or pursuit.
He said a woman passed through a safety checkpoint set up by the S.C. Highway Patrol on Sprott Street around 8:30 p.m. Monday before leading troopers on a pursuit that continued to Highway 72. Long said the woman hit a vehicle at the Bypass 72 intersection, but it didn’t stop there.
The woman managed to drive several hundred more feet before a pursuit on foot. She was taken into custody.
Her name has not been released by the S.C. Highway Patrol as of Tuesday morning.
The Index Journal reports that Greenwood police, Greenwood city firefighters and Greenwood County EMS also responded to the crash.
