SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) — Entrepreneurs of all ages will be welcomed to downtown Spartanburg this weekend.
Startup Weekend, a global event powered by Google, helps people launch a startup in just 54 hours.
Spartanburg’s Startup Weekend will be held at The University of South Carolina Upstate’s George Dean Johnson Jr. College of Business and Economics, also known as The George.
The three day event runs Friday to Sunday, February 24th-26th.
Startup weekend brings designers, developers, marketers, and startup enthusiasts together to share ideas, create teams, and launch startup businesses.
“No one who’s registered has to prepare anything. They just come with a business idea,” said Brian Brady, co-organizer of the event who also works at U.S.C. Upstate.
Aspiring entrepreneurs pitch their ideas Friday, work in groups Saturday, and then judges select a winner Sunday.
The winner gets additional resources and expertise to turn their idea into something real.
“Participants will experience the highs, lows, fun and pressure that make up life at a startup,” said Parker Baxter, another co-organizer of the event.
Since 2009, more than 230,000 people have participated in Startup Weekend events in 140 countries.
Each event is organized by local community members.
