Greenville Police step up security for SEC Women’s Tournament

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – More than 6,000 people are expected to attend the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament in Greenville and police are putting security measures in place to make sure those attendees stay safe.

Officers will be stationed in and around the Bon Secours Wellness Arena where the 13 games will be played over the next five days, said Ofc. Johnathan Bragg, with Greenville Police.

“We really are prepared for it just because we have a lot of events at the arena already, and people in Greenville are prepared for it because they’re used to the traffic when there are events going on,” Bragg said

Additional officers will be placed in the Central Business District where most of the attendees will be staying in hotels.

Only clear bags are allowed inside the arena, according to the SEC.
