Driver charged with DUI in I-20 crash that killed Upstate woman

LEXINGTON Co., S.C. (WSPA) — Authorities say an Upstate woman died at the scene of a crash on Interstate 20.

Kari Grace Brown, 29, of Taylors died from body trauma, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said in a news release. She was reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Lance Cpl. David Jones with the S.C. Highway Patrol said the crash happened just after 12:30 p.m. Monday near mile marker 61.

Jones said Vought Taylor, 29, was headed westbound on the interstate when the 2006 GMC truck he was driving went off the road and struck several trees. Brown was a front-seat passenger. The coroner said she was not wearing a seat belt.

Taylor was taken to the hospital. He has been released from the hospital and charged with felony DUI resulting in death, Jones said.

Brown was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, the coroner said.

The crash remains under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
