CLEMSON (WSPA) – Clemson University fired head volleyball coach Hugh Hernesman Wednesday after less than two years on the job.

“The decision to make a change in the leadership of our volleyball program is not an easy one,” said Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich in a written statement, “but in evaluating the entire program, it became evident that we needed a new direction to better position our student-athletes for future success.”

Hernesman was hired at Clemson on March 5, 2015. He who won a conference title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament at Northwestern State in 2014.

He was the ninth head coach in Clemson volleyball program history.

Radakovich said a national search for Hernesman’s replacement will begin immediately, and an interim head coach will be named shortly as off-season training continues.
