The Southeastern Conference Tournament has started in Greenville bringing in new visitors and business to the Upstate.
Play started Wednesday with Vanderbilt and Alabama getting things kicked off early and there are some students from schools nearby in the seats
The tournament was last in Greenville in 2005. The Lady Gamecocks are the two-time defending champions of the tournament and are again the regular season champion this year
Because of their high seed, they get a double bye meaning they don’t have to play until the third day of the tournament on Friday at noon.
They will face the winner of Thursday’s game between Georgia and Auburn.
There are fourteen teams overall in Greenville for the SEC Women’s Tournament which is considered one of the top women’s basketball leagues in the nation
Since the 2013 SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament, student-athletes and coaches have participated in outreach activities in our local communities.
The teams work with students to hold basketball clinics, read to classrooms and visit local children’s hospitals or after school programs.
“The Well” and 13 local elementary schools have partnered up sending letters and received banners back from the sec teams and players.
