POLK CO., N.C. (WSPA) – A Polk County deputy is in the hospital after a crash near Saluda on I-26 westbound, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. Thursday.
The deputy was following a car when the car suddenly came to a stop in the middle of the road, forcing the officer to brake.
An 18-wheeler was unable to stop and ran into the back of the deputy’s car.
The deputy suffered non-life threatening injuries, and the car was heavily damaged.
Two people who were in the car in front of the deputy are under investigation for credit card fraud and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the sheriff’s office.
Both are in custody.
