Women encouraged to get tested, know HIV status

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) — Piedmont Care will extend its hours for HIV testing today as part of a nationwide initiative.

National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day will be recognized on March 10th. The annual initiative aims to raise awareness of the increasing impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls.

According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, 24 percent of people living with HIV/AIDS in the United States are women, and women make up 20 percent of new HIV infections in the country.

Piedmont Care will offer free and confidential tests from 8:30 a.m. until noon and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 9.  Piedmont Care is located inside the Wells Fargo Building at 101 North Pine Street, Suite 200.
