Woman shot to death in Laurens Co., 1 arrested

CLINTON, SC (WSPA) – A woman is dead after a shooting on Mill Pond Rd. near Clinton and a suspect has been arrested.

The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office says a woman was found unresponsive in a back bedroom of the house. The woman had multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body, according to the Sheriff’s Office.Laurens County homicide

The Laurens County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 40-year-old Kimberly Smith. She was pronounced dead at the scene around 3:45 p.m.

Investigators say they have arrested 40-year-old Clinton Anthony Smith of Greenwood in connection with Kimberly Smith’s death.

The Sheriff’s Office says they received a call saying a woman was going into cardiac arrest around 3:42 p.m. Clinton Public Safety Officers responded and found Smith unresponsive with apparent gunshot wounds.

The coroner was called after emergency responders were unable to revive the victim.

Deputies in Greenwood County assisted Laurens County and a person of interest was detained in Greenwood County.

The Sheriff’s Office says they believe it is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.

Clinton Smith has been charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime, 1st degree burglary, and murder.

He was denied bond.
