SPARTANBURG, SC (WSPA) – A man is in custody after a chase that end with a crash into a light post in Spartanburg, according to deputies.
The report says a deputy was patrolling Howard St. when a car ran a stop sign at Allen Ave. and stop in the middle of Howard St.
They say the vehicle started again heading toward the city limits.
The deputy turned around and turned on the blue lights and started following the car.
They say the car swerved toward Swanee St. and crossed the double yellow line as if he was trying to pull over.
The car then swerved back onto Howard St., pulled around the ABC liquor store on Myrtle Ave. and accelerated back onto Old Howard Gap Rd., according to the report.
The deputy started chasing the vehicle down Howard St at 45 mph.
They say the car crossed a double yellow line to pass another vehicle.
The car started to approach Arch St. when it hit the brakes, as if the driver were trying to make the deputy hit his car, according to the report.
Later the car ran up on the sidewalk near Duncan Memorial United Methodist and into the parking lot, say deputies.
When the car reached the end of the parking lot it turned onto N Forest St. and hit a light post, according to the report.
Deputies say the driver, Carlos Lamont McJimpsey, 25, got out of the car and ran down Wesley St.
They checked the car for other suspects and found a two guns in the car. One of them was stolen, according to the report.
McKimpsey is currently in the Spartanburg Co. Detention Center on Strong Armed Robbery, Trespassing and Marijuana possession charges.
