CHEROKEE CO, SC (WSPA) – I-85 is known for the traffic, especially when you head towards the North Carolina border. A new project could help bring some relief to one of the busiest parts of the highway.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation plans to fix the traffic headaches by adding more lanes to a stretch of the highway in Cherokee County.
The DOT is planning to add another lane on the northbound and southbound lanes, making I-85 a three lane highway. The lane will be stretch from mile markers 98 to 106, and there will also be some work on the interchanges in the area.
The DOT hopes to start construction next year, and plans to complete the expansion by 2022. They will post the project plans on the DOT website this week.
